From the top of Pike’s Peak in Colorado in the summer of 1893, Katherine Lee Bates looked out across the vast expanses of the continental United States of American and wrote a poem that captured the hearts and minds of the American people. She could see not only the physical beauty of the landscape but also the beauty of the spirit of God’s blessings upon our great nation. The title of her poem was “America The Beautiful.”
